Xi'an Hongxin's Angola Ferrosilicon Project Makes Steady Progress – Chinese and Local Workers Join Forces

April 10, 2026 – The ferrosilicon submerged arc furnace (SAF) project undertaken by Xi’an Hongxin Arc Furnace Co., Ltd. in Angola is now advancing steadily, with on‑site installation work in full swing. A dedicated team of Chinese engineers and technicians is working side by side with local Angolan workers, pooling their expertise to drive the project towards timely completion.

The project, which broke ground in late 2025, covers the supply and installation of a complete 25.5 MVA ferrosilicon furnace line – including electrode columns, short network systems, water‑cooled components, and the automated feeding system. Once operational, the plant will produce approximately 80,000 tonnes of high‑grade ferrosilicon per year, serving both the domestic Angolan market and export destinations in Central and West Africa.

“This is our first major EPC project in Central Africa, and we are determined to deliver world‑class quality,” said the site manager from Xi’an Hongxin. “Our Chinese team brings decades of experience in SAF installation, while our Angolan colleagues possess excellent local knowledge and a strong work ethic. Together, we are overcoming every challenge – from logistics to language – and the atmosphere on site is truly energetic.”

Currently, the furnace shell has been positioned, and crews are busy assembling the water‑cooled roof, pressure rings, and copper contact shoes. The electrode system, a critical component for stable and efficient operation, is being installed with millimeter‑level precision. Meanwhile, the short network and cooling water circuits are undergoing leak tests and conductivity checks.

To ensure smooth knowledge transfer, Xi’an Hongxin has organized daily on‑the‑job training sessions. Local workers are learning proper welding techniques for copper‑steel connections, safe handling of heavy components, and basic troubleshooting procedures. Several Angolan technicians have already demonstrated the ability to independently complete sub‑assemblies under supervision.

“The collaboration has been fantastic,” remarked an Angolan foreman. “We are not just building a furnace – we are building skills and trust. The Chinese engineers are patient teachers, and our teams are proud to be part of such a modern industrial project.”

Despite challenges such as high ambient temperatures and occasional supply chain delays, the project remains on schedule. The installation of the feeding system and dust collection equipment is expected to be completed by mid‑May, followed by electrical and automation system commissioning. Trial production is targeted for late July 2026.

Xi’an Hongxin views the Angola ferrosilicon project as a cornerstone of its expansion strategy in Africa. The company is already in discussions with regional clients for additional EPC contracts and long‑term spare parts supply agreements.

“This project proves that with mutual respect and joint effort, we can build world‑class metallurgical facilities anywhere,” added the site manager. “We look forward to celebrating the first heat with our Angolan partners in the coming months.”
