Oman Industrial Silicon Project – EPC Turnkey (2 × 33,000 kVA Semi-closed Submerged Arc Furnaces)

I. Product: Industrial Silicon (metallurgical-grade silicon)

II. Capacity per Furnace: 33,000 kVA

III. Furnace Type: Semi-closed submerged arc furnace

IV. Quantity: 2 furnaces

V. Construction Time: 2024

VI. Project Location: Sultanate of Oman

VII. Project Details:

In 2024, Hongxin signed an EPC turnkey contract with the client for the Oman Industrial Silicon Project, covering the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, and commissioning of two 33,000 kVA semi-closed submerged arc furnaces. The project is located in the Sultanate of Oman and represents Hongxin’s first large-scale industrial silicon turnkey project in the Middle East, marking a significant step in the company’s international expansion strategy.

Project Background & Significance:
Oman possesses abundant quartzite resources and relatively low energy costs, and has been actively developing its metallurgical and downstream processing industries in recent years. Once operational, this project will fill a local gap in high-grade industrial silicon production, supplying the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region’s aluminum smelters and silicone plants. The owner selected Hongxin after a rigorous comparison of multiple international suppliers, primarily due to Hongxin’s proven track record of stable performance and fast delivery on numerous successful projects in China’s Xinjiang and Qinghai provinces as well as overseas.

Technology & Scope of Supply:
Hongxin’s two 33,000 kVA semi-closed submerged arc furnaces incorporate mature and reliable constant-current electrode control systems, high-efficiency water-cooled furnace lids, and environmentally friendly off-gas treatment interfaces. The EPC scope includes all process equipment from the raw material batching station, top silos, furnace main body, electrode system, short network and water cooling system, to the front tapping system and ingot casting system. It also includes electrical automation controls, transformer sets, and complete low-voltage distribution systems. Civil works and external grid connection are excluded. Leveraging design optimizations validated on multiple 33,000 kVA projects in Xinjiang, each furnace is expected to achieve a stable daily output exceeding 55 tons, with power consumption and recovery rates reaching internationally advanced levels.

Current Progress:
As of early 2025, all detailed engineering design has been completed, and major equipment – including furnace shells, electrode columns, transformers, and water-cooled cables – is either under manufacturing or in transit. Site leveling and foundation work, handled by the owner, are nearing completion. Hongxin’s site installation team is preparing to mobilize. Overall project progress is smooth, with no significant delays. Installation and cold/hot commissioning are expected to be completed within 2025, with commercial operation targeted for early 2026.

Client Cooperation & Outlook:
The owner has expressed strong satisfaction with Hongxin’s professionalism and responsiveness. Preliminary discussions have already begun regarding future spare parts supply, operator training, and a possible third‑phase expansion. The successful execution of the Oman project will set a benchmark for Hongxin’s further expansion into the Middle East and North African markets.
