Project Overview

In 2020, Hongxin signed a comprehensive EPC turnkey contract with Fujian Xingheng Silicon Industry Co., Ltd. for the construction of two 25,500 kVA semi-closed submerged arc furnaces for industrial silicon (metallurgical-grade silicon) production. The project is located in Shanghang County, Fujian Province, China, and represents Hongxin's continued expansion into the industrial silicon sector in southeastern China.

Project Specifications

Scope of Supply – Full EPC Turnkey

The contract was structured as a comprehensive EPC turnkey project. Hongxin's scope covered the main equipment for the industrial silicon furnaces, including the charging system, low-voltage compensation system, and transformer. In addition, Hongxin supplied all non-standard equipment through to the completion of tapping and casting. This encompassed the furnace main body, electrode system, tapping launder, casting equipment, and all associated structural and mechanical components.

Furthermore, the contract included the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of the supporting electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. By taking responsibility for this full scope, Hongxin was able to integrate mechanical, electrical, automation, and process systems under a single contract, minimizing interface risks and ensuring a smooth transition from construction to operation.

Construction and Commissioning

Construction commenced in 2020. Hongxin's project team managed the manufacturing, delivery, and on-site installation with careful planning and coordination. The electrical, instrumentation, and control systems were designed to provide reliable monitoring and adjustment of key process parameters, including electrode position, furnace power, cooling water flow, and tapping temperature. The low-voltage compensation system was designed to improve power factor and reduce electrical disturbances, contributing to stable furnace operation. All equipment was installed and commissioned according to schedule.

Operational Performance

The project officially started operation in March 2021. By the end of April to May 2021, each furnace had achieved a stable daily output of 38–42 tonnes of industrial silicon. This performance met the design expectations for 25,500 kVA semi-closed furnaces and demonstrated the effectiveness of Hongxin's process design, equipment manufacturing, and commissioning work.

The furnaces have continued to operate well to date, with stable production, reliable control performance, and low unplanned downtime. The semi-closed furnace design has proven well-suited to the client's raw materials and power supply conditions, while the integrated electrical and automation systems have supported consistent operation and ease of maintenance.

Project Significance

This EPC turnkey project further strengthens Hongxin's reference list in the industrial silicon industry. It demonstrates our ability to deliver complete furnace systems – from charging and power supply through tapping, casting, and control – for medium-capacity furnaces.
